Statement on the 2024 Presidential Election
Dearest Raices Chicago Communities,
This day weighs heavy for many of us. Raices Chicago is an organization founded by Chicagoans who are documented and undocumented immigrants from Mexico. It is a majority women led organization. All its founders are from working class communities, and one of our founders is queer. Though what lies ahead may seem daunting and fearful; today more than ever we are grounding ourselves in our roots. Roots that historically run deep into reservoirs of resistance and courage.
We ground ourselves in the knowledge that we are here now because we stand on the shoulders of defiant immigrants, people of color, queers, women, people with disabilities and working-class people.
These next four years we will have to reach deep into our roots to evoke lessons of resistance but more importantly lessons of care. We will care for one another like historically we have had to to ensure our continued existence. We built entire communal infrastructures that sustained us. We built movements that shifted historical timelines all while providing for one another respites of solidarity, care and love. Those are the legacies that Raices Chicago Story Coalition will continue to uplift now and always. We will not be uprooted!
