These next four years we will have to reach deep into our roots to evoke lessons of resistance but more importantly lessons of care.

It is our hopes that all non-Latine/x communities engage with Raices Chicago to tell more complete histories of this city.

The work of RAICES begins with a coalition of support to Latine/x organizations or groups  to document their own history and that of their communities, facilitating and promoting research to activate the community archives, and funding and promoting humanities projects and programs for communities to further document and share their stories with the public.  

Raices hopes to prevent historical erasure and exclusion, promote cultural belonging, and celebrate positive cultural identity while fostering positive relationship-building across diverse communities.

Cultivation work challenges the static preservation and collection of culture for one that is rooted in the collaborative nurture and care of people as the stewards of their culture.

Raices will employ Latine/x terminology strategically to indicate geographical locations and the gender and sexual variance of these communities.
